advancedThe Actor's Work on the Screenplay/Play: An Advanced Approach
with Ray Zananiri
So you're staring at your characters' first few lines. You utter the first sentence. You listen to your own voice. "Is this the character? Why do I sound false, contrived?" You change the intonation of your voice and put on a different expression on your face. Better? Why not? That's good enough. It turns out that those first moments with the script are very critical. Because we, as human beings, are creatures of habits and chances are you'll be stuck with that "tone" before you had a chance to fully explore the character. Your whole performance will be based on hollow "mannerisms" rather than a living breathing human being, full of specific desires and specific fears. In this class we will use well-written examples from plays and screenplays. We will work on our feet, methodically implementing a robust approach to incrementally internalize each character's circumstances. Dates: TBD
